SCENT DETECTION TRIAL – November 28, 2026
This will be our club’s first official CKC Scent Detection Trial!
Scent Detection is a fun event open to all dogs who enjoy the challenge of locating a scent and communicating with their handler that the scent has been located. There are several Kamloops trainers offering Scent Detection training to help you prepare for a match.
Our trial will be adjudicated by our local judge, Arleigh Bell, and will be Containers (all levels: Instinct to Masters), plus Novice Interior and Exterior.
Registrations will open from dogshow.ca.
Mixed-breeds are welcome and encouraged to compete. To be eligible for a title, be sure to register for a Companion Number with CKC.
SCENT DETECTION TRIAL – March 27-28, 2027
How it Works:
There are five classes, starting with the entry-level “instinct” class, and in ascending order the novice, open, excellent, and master classes. Each class tests the dog’s ability at a new, more challenging level, encouraging greater perseverance and focus on fine-tuning of olfactory senses. The scent source may be within a container (the only option for the instinct level ), interior of a building, or exterior (the great outdoors).
Dogs will be divided into height divisions within the classes based on the height indicated on the entry form. Titles are awarded upon the dog acquiring the required number of qualifying scores within the class entered.
Registrations will be open from dogshow.ca closer to the event.
Mixed-breeds and un-registered purebred dogs are welcome and encouraged to compete! To be eligible for a title, be sure to register for a Companion Number with CKC.
PAST EVENTS
CANINE GOOD NEIGHBOUR TEST – July 19, 2026
This will be our second CGN test in Kamloops, and will be held at Overlanders Day in Brocklehurst Park (2470 Fleetwood Ave.). Our evaluators will be Karen Brearley from Armstrong and Anita Vaartstra from Merritt.
The test is a 12-step certification program designed to evaluate your dog’s manners, sociability and basic obedience in an everyday community setting. Passing the test earns your dog a Canine Good Neighbour certificate from CKC, proving your dog is a well-behaved and trustworthy member of the community. The steps to be evaluated are:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Politely accepting petting
- Appearance and grooming (accepts a brushing)
- Loose-leash walking
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit/Down and Stay in place
- Come when called
- Calm down after accepting praise
- Reaction to a passing dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Remaining calm when being left with a stranger
- Politely walking through a door/gate

FETCH TRIAL – July 2, 2026
Wanna make some history? Bring your ball-crazy dog out for what will be one of the first ever Fetch Trials in Canada!
The sport is open to all dogs, and mixed-breed/unregistered dogs are eligible to earn Fetch titles if they have a CKC companion number.
